Connecting with our inner "parts" can be a deep journey. It takes a lot of courage to listen to our feelings and to express them honestly. Feeling safe is key, because many of these parts will only share their stories when they feel truly welcome and understood.
The poem below is a small exploration inspired by these very conversations, both inner and outer. It’s an ode to the tender, often hidden, parts of ourselves that are waiting for a safe space to be heard.

There Is Something About the Night
(or A Letter to My Daughters and Mothers)
There is something about the night,
and something
about the darkest corners of our soul
that can only be seen
with the eyes closed.
Some face of truth
that can never be revealed
when there is too much light.
Some parts of you that,
when they speak,
need to be sure no one looks into
their wet eyes.
“I want to give you what I’ve never had.
I want to be there for you.
I am the fatherless Sun,”
says the Night.
“Sometimes you can only understand
something you no longer have.”
“That’s the strange paradox of Life:
where to feel full,
you must be empty,
to know something is always there,
it needs to be gone.”
“I am a part of you
the same way as
you have always been in me,”
said the Night with the Dawn.
Perhaps this poem resonated with a part of you. If you're curious about exploring your inner parts through Internal Family Systems (IFS), I'd be happy to hear from you.
